Haimes has devoted more than 33
years – one-half of his life – to service of
AYSO. During those years, he has served
at the Region, Area, Section and national
levels, and has been the face and voice of
AYSO to the national and international
soccer communities. He served an
unprecedented thirty years on the AYSO
National Board of Directors – seven
as National President and twelve as
Chairman of the Board – and has worked
in all capacities to enhance AYSO’s
position in the soccer community as the
model for youth sports.
As the legal commission for many
years, not only did he travel to Regions
to support local turf battles, he also filed
a major law suit against the USSF, which
was adjudicated in AYSO’s favor by the
Olympic Committee, resulting in the
USSF having to reorganize itself under a
new constitution, recognizing the valid
position of AYSO. Without all of his pro
bono work, AYSO would not exist as
it does today. His commitment to and
passion for AYSO has been unsurpassed
in the giving of personal and professional
time. His dedication has served as an
example to others and is acknowledged
and appreciated. |
