McCrath had a 597-233-95 record in 49
years as a collegiate head coach. In 38 years
at Seattle Pacific, McCrath‘s teams had a
512-190-87 record, 30 NCAA Tournament
appearances and five national titles. He
led the Falcons to 37 consecutive winning
seasons, an NCAA Division II record.
His players earned NSCAA All-America
honors 18 times. More than 40 have been
drafted by professional teams and more
than 100 have become coaches at the high
school and college levels.
The 1978 NSCAA National Coach of
the Year, McCrath won conference coach
of the year eight times. He received the
association’s Honor Award in 1985. In 1973
he founded the Northwest Soccer Camp,
whose alumni include U.S. international
stars Kasey Keller and Michelle Akers.
A member of the halls of fame of the
National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials
Association (NISOA), the National
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
(NAIA) and Wheaton (Ill.) College, where
he was an All-America and coached prior
to moving to Seattle Pacific, he also is
secretary-editor of the NCAA Soccer
Rules Committee. His collegiate career
includes coaching stints at Wheaton,
Gordon College and Spring Arbor College
prior to joining SPU’s staff in 1970. |
