Joseph Machnik


NISOA Hall of Fame - Class of 2003

Machnik began his involvement as a NISOA member in 1968, a stint that ran until 1973. In 1984, he returned to the NISOA ranks and assumed a prominent position in New England intercollegiate soccer officiating.

A NISOA referee, Machnik officiated the NCAA New England Division I finals seven times in an 11-year span from 1984 through 1994.  In 1988, he worked the NCAA Division I championship match in Indianapolis, then did the NCAA Division II final in 1990 and 1992.

A fixture in ACC regular season and tournament matches from 1988 to 1997, Joe was named the New England Intercollegiate Soccer Official of the Year in 1991 and received the New England Intercollegiate Soccer Distinguished Service Award in 1994. He has received numerous awards, including induction into the athletic halls of fame at the University of New Haven (1987) and Long Island University (2001) and the LIU Distinguished Alumni Award in 1967.

Machnik also serves as the Executive Director of the Walt Chyzowych Memorial Foundation, an organization dedicated to the memory of the former U.S. National Team coach and committed to soccer education.
