Raymond 'Granny' Kraft

Granny played soccer for 20 years for teams in the Baltimore area including Polytechnic Institute, Maryland S.C., St. Gerard and Baltimore Professional Soccer Club. However, it was as a referee that he made his name in soccer graduating from handling local games to the American Soccer League, the International Soccer League, the National Professional Soccer League, the North American Soccer League and then to international games. He was selected to represent the United States on the FIFA list of referees in 1956 and from 1960 to 1966. During that time he refereed games such as Germany vs. Brazil, England vs. Scotland, Switzerland vs. England, Poland vs. Yugoslavia and England vs. the United States, among many others. From 1943 to 1946 he was an Athletic Instructor in the U.S. Navy and formed the first soccer team at Norfolk Air Station.
