The 1960's


                      

The 1960's saw a lot happen in professional soccer in the United States. Two professional leagues (USL & NPSL) were founded but later merged to form the North American Soccer League in 1968. A huge step was taken for soccer in the United States during the 1966 World Cup because it was the first time ever that a World Cup broadcast embraced television screens.
