Graduated from Maryland State Normal School at Towson and went on to do her graduate work in Physical Education at Cornell University.

During a teaching career that spanned more than 30 years she taught the fundamentals of soccer to more than 1,200 boys, including Hall of Famer Millard Lang, his brother John and Bill Schwange, Bob Delashmutt, Johnny Sherry, Topsy Hartung and Alec Sparra, who all became professionals. From 1923 to 1934 she was goalkeeper for the Baltimore Women's Field Hockey team. She became the first woman inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1951.
