Giorgio Piscopo


George's parents returned to Italy when he was three years old and he learned all his early soccer in Naples playing for a team called L'Alato.

At 16 he was playing for a team in Italy's Serie C called Circle Del Motore but his family them moved back to the United States where he played for the Waverly and Inter-Giuliana clubs. In 1937 he founded the Italian-American Soccer League of New York and in 1938 the league all-star team beat the German American League All-Stars at Randall's Island before 23,000 people with George scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory.  He then organized the Brooklyn Italian team and the Palermo club where he was both player and president.  The end of his playing days came in 1954 and he was elected president of the Italian-American League a position he held for seven years. Over the years received numerous awards from the Italian government for his work with the Italian-American community.
