Peter
Collins of Hicksville, New York, spent close to three decades
at the helm of the Long Island Junior Soccer League, during
which time he worked tirelessly to build the league from
300 teams to the 1,600 teams it has today. Peter Collins

elected a member
of the Board of Directors of the Long Island Junior Soccer League
in 1974, elected president of
the league in 1997 and coached the Long Island Minutemen
to the McGuire Cup Finals in 1978. Collins established the
LIJSLs Esteemed Sportsmans Program in the 1980s
to counter negative influences in sports and has established
Liberty Cup sister tournaments in Russia, Ireland and Italy.
In 1996 he helped establish the Long Island Soccer Park in
which his teams could play. Peter Collins served as president
of the league for an uninterrupted, twenty-seven year tenure,
and he was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame
in 1998. |
