William Morrissette


Bill played soccer with junior teams in Fall River, Massachusetts from 1916 to 1918 in public parks, before retiring at the age of 18 to turn his attention to civic and fraternal affairs.

In 1945 returned to the soccer fold and was elected vice president and treasurer of the Fall River District Soccer League. In 1954-55 the league was disbanded and reorganized as the Inter-State Soccer League with Morrissette serving as its secretary-treasurer and public relations director. When the Inter-State League ran into trouble he was urged to organize a league made up from the top teams in the Boston and District League. With the help of Sam T.N. Foulds, of the Northern Massachusetts and New Hampshire Association, the New England Soccer League was formed to include teams from the Greater Boston area and the Fall River-New Bedford - Rhode Island area to begin play in the 1962-63 season. Bill served the league as its secretary-treasurer and public relations director. He was also secretary of the Southern New England Soccer Football Association from 1949, the Association's delegate to the USSFA and National Cups Commissioner for all three cups. He also wrote for numerous soccer publications and the Fall River News-Herald.
