Arnie Mausser

Perhaps the finest goalkeeper ever produced in the United States, Arnie played for eight different clubs during his NASL career.

Personal Information

Class of 2003
Born: February 28, 1954 - Brooklyn, NY
Position: Goalkeeper
Int'l Caps: 35 Int'l Shutouts: 10

Born in Brooklyn, he played for the Rhode Island Oceaneers in the American Soccer League before signing Hartford Bicentennials in 1975. From there he moved on to Tampa, Vancouver, Colorado, Ft. Lauderdale, New England/Jacksonville and Team America before returning to Tampa for the 1984 season. A big man with an unorthodox technique, he was a very effective distributor of the ball and threw the ball right handed, but kicked left footed. During his ten years in the League he shut out the opposition 35 times. His performance in the NASL made him first choice for the U.S. International Team and he won 34 caps from 1975 to 1986, when he played the first half of the game against England in Los Angeles. He selected to the NASL All-Star First Team in 1976 (Tampa Bay).
