At the age of 17, Wolanin joined
Polish First Division team Pogon Lwow, but on the outbreak of the war left
Poland and moved to England. In England he played for the Blackpool's
second team.

Wolanin moved to the United
States during the war. He lived in Chicago where he ended
up playing for the Mid-West All-Stars in 1943. Following the war he played at first for the Maroons and
later the Eagles.
In 1948 he represented the
National League of Chicago against Djurgarden of Sweden and in 1949 against
another Swedish club Kamraterna. He played for the Chicago All-Stars against Bratislava of
Czechoslovakia in 1948, Hamburger SV of Germany and Besiktas of Turkey in
1950, and AIK Stockholm in 1951.As a member of the
U.S. World Cup team in 1950, he played at outside right position in the first game
against Spain. Following the World Cup,
Wolanin played for Chicago
Falcons. In 1953, the Falcons defeated Harmarville 2-0, and 1-0 winning
the U.S. Open Cup.
