'Wolfgang' began
his career at Slade school in Fall River and by the age of 14 was good enough
to be playing for a local amateur team.

Eventually he graduated to the local Ponta Delgada team playing in
the National Soccer League of New England and went on to win national and
amateur cup titles with the team. A truck driver by profession he as a member of the 1950 U.S. World
Cup team that upset England in Belo Horizonte. He won a U.S. Open Cup medal with Ponta Delgada in 1947
against Chicago Sparta scoring twice in the 6-1 first leg. He also played in the Open Cup final
of 1950 when the Ponta's were beaten by St. Louis Simpkins-Ford, but
scored the winning goal in the second leg. Also in 1947, when the Ponta's won both the Open and
Amateur finals, he scored five times in the 10-1 win over St. Louis
Carondelets in the Amateur final, and shot a hat trick in the second leg
of the Amateur final in 1950 when Ponta Delgada beat Harmarville. In 1951 he won a third Amateur Cup
medal this time with the New York German-Hungarians, once again over
Harmarville. Back with Ponta Delgada in 1953 he
scored both goals in the final against Chicago Slovaks to win his fourth
medal. He played for Fall River
against Liverpool in 1948 and for New England All-Stars against Belfast
Celtic and the Scottish F.A. team in 1949.
