Mike played semi-professional baseball as a
short-stop in Pittsburgh before turning to soccer with Jeannette and
Vestaburg in Western Pennsylvania.

He played briefly in the American Soccer league for the Boston
Wonder Workers in the 1924-25 season and in 1925-26 with New Bedford Whalers. He arrived in Cleveland later in 1926
and began playing for Cleveland Slavia in the Mid-West Professional
League. He also played for the
Cleveland All-Stars against the touring Nacional club of Montevideo in 1927
and for the Cleveland Hungarians against Vienna Hakoah in that same year
as a guest player. Bookie scored
for the Hungarians in a 1-1 tie. In 1929 he played for the Ohio All-Stars against the English club
Preston North End and scored Ohio's lone goal in a 5-1 defeat and in 1930
he was a guest player for Cleveland Bruells against the Scottish club Kilmarnock. In 1930 he was selected for the
U.S. World Cup team, but saw no action in the three games in the finals
played in Montevideo. However,
after the World Cup was over he played against Nacional in Montevideo,
Santos in Brazil and against the Brazilian national team in Rio de
Janeiro. In later years he played
for Curry in the Pittsburgh area.
