Willy Schaller


Came to the United States as a young boy and became an all-star in both high school and the New York German-American Soccer League.

At the age of 19 he was selected to the team to represent the United States at the 1952 Olympic Games held in Finland. While still a senior in high school, but playing for New York Schwaben in the German-American League, he played at right back in the two warm up games against France and Egypt and then in the Olympic qualifying round against Italy in Tampere.  In 1959, as a member of the New York Blau-Weiss Gottschee team, he represented the United States in the Pan American Games in Chicago, playing at left back in the games against Haiti and Cuba, and winning a bronze medal. Over the course of his playing career he played for the German-American League All-Star team against Stuttgart Kickers in 1952, the West German Police All-Stars twice in 1956, Kaiserslautern in 1957, Offenbach Kickers in 1958 and for a U.S. All-Star team against the West Berlin All-Stars in 1959. From 1953 to 1955 he served in the U.S. Army. In 1960 he toured Austria with the Blau-Weiss Gottschee club playing in Linz, Innsbruck, Radentein and Klagenfurt, on retiring he continued to serve the game as a coach at both the youth and high school levels.
