The
Bill Jeffrey Award is named for the former Penn State
coach who played a major role in shaping soccer and the
NSCAA. Each year, the NSCAA presents this award to a
person who has raised intercollegiate soccer to new
heights through his or her long-term dedication to the
game.
About Bill
Jeffrey
Bill
played semi-professional soccer in Scotland before coming to
the United States in 1920, where he played for Altoona,
Homestead, Braddock and Bethlehem. While acting as
player-manager of Altoona in 1925 he took his team to play the
college team at Penn State. There he was offered a job as
coach of the college team, and the rest is history.
Jeffrey coached at Penn State from 1926 through the 1952
season, winning nine national collegiate championships.
During those 27 seasons as Penn State's coach, 36 of his
players earned a total of 51 All-American awards. He is best known
as the coach of the U.S. World Cup team in 1950.
Inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1951.
