Bill Jeffrey Award

The Bill Jeffrey Award is named for the former Penn State coach who played a major role in shaping soccer and the NSCAA. Each year, the NSCAA presents this award to a person who has raised intercollegiate soccer to new heights through his or her long-term dedication to the game.

About Bill Jeffrey
Bill played semi-professional soccer in Scotland before coming to the United States in 1920, where he played for Altoona, Homestead, Braddock and Bethlehem. While acting as player-manager of Altoona in 1925 he took his team to play the college team at Penn State. There he was offered a job as coach of the college team, and the rest is history. Jeffrey coached at Penn State from 1926 through the 1952 season, winning nine national collegiate championships. During those 27 seasons as Penn State's coach, 36 of his players earned a total of 51 All-American awards. He is best known as the coach of the U.S. World Cup team in 1950. Inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1951.
