Hamm Finishes Runner-Up in FIFA Women's World Player of the Year Voting

The recently retired U.S. Women's National Team star Mia Hamm finished runner-up to Birgit Prinz of Germany in the 2004 FIFA Women's Player of the Year. Prinz, who won the award last year received 376 votes - 90 more than Hamm.

Hamm, who retired from the Women's National Team on December 8, received 286 votes five ahead of third place finisher, Marta of Brazil. The United States had the most players in the Top 10 with four - Hamm (2nd), Abby Wambach (4th), Kristine Lilly (5th) and Shannon Boxx (7th). Goalkeeper Briana Scurry (18th) was the only other American to make this list.
