Stewart and Kreis Jersey Go on Display at the Hall of Fame

7.15.2004

The jerseys that Earnie Stewart wore in his 100th international appearance for the United States, and that Jason Kreis wore when he became the leading scorer in Major League Soccer history went on display at the National Soccer Hall of Fame today. “We are excited that these players have shared their important moments and personal
treasures with the soccer fans who come from all across the country to visit the Hall of Fame,” Jack Huckel, Hall of Fame Director of Communications said. “Each of these players is a hero in the game.”

Stewart entered the recent World Cup qualifying game against Grenada in the 63rd minute for his 100th internal appearance and set up DaMarcus Beasley’s game-winning goal 14 minutes later. “Earnie has played in three FIFA World Cups for the United States (1994, 1998, 2002) and leads all men’s national team players in the number of World Cup qualifying matches played. He is an outstanding professional and a tremendous example of the consummate midfielder.”

Kreis scored his record-breaking 89th career goal, eclipsing Roy Lassiter’s record, on June 26 against D.C. United at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. “Jason is the sharpshooter front runner for the Dallas Burn,” Huckel said. “He has an uncanny ability to find the net. His record breaking goal was a perfect example of his ability to be in the right
place, turn quickly with the ball and shoot accurately into the lower corner of the goal, not a powered goal, but a well placed goal.”

Earnie’s 100th jersey joins the jersey Claudio Reyna presented the Hall of Fame following his 100th U.S. international match against Honduras on June 2nd. “The players recognition of the importance of sharing their accomplishment with America’s soccer fans is very rewarding. We know they think of the Hall of Fame as their place and these displays emphasize that fact,” Huckel concluded.
